oveja eléctrica (electric sheep) is an ongoing project with the goal of creating an artificial composer: a system that, through processes spawned inside one or more computers, will be able to write music in a non-random, independent way, and with the least possible influence by the programmer/meta-composer's tastes or aesthetic criteria.

stages:

oe3 oe3 [oe:afol] (in progress)

oe3 is a modular system based on previous stages, adding to them new abilities like searching for and selecting stimuli, a song distribution service and reinforcement learning. most of this modules will be trained using rewards generated by analysing the behaviour of the audience.

oe3:spectrofoto (finishing)

spectrofoto is the first subcomposer module to be implemented. it applies a technique based on the transformation of images in source sounds, that will later be processed and mixed to generate the final creation.
oe3:spectrofoto participated in the events organized by the label Aloardí in Lima (Perú), during the Festival VAE10.

oe:mat oe:mat (finished 2004-05)

based on the previous stage (oe:onen), but able to compose longer and more coherent pieces for three instrument simulations (grand piano + rhodes + bass pedals). a cellular automata and a random walker generate global structure.

oe:onen oe:onen (finished 2004-02)

a generative composer of short piano piece fragments, based on a neural network and an algorithmic gamut generator. the neural network ('onen') receives a randomly selected picture as input and generates a list of notes to be played.

oveja eléctrica won the first prize in the category 'Proyecto Multidisciplinario Experimental - Premio limb0' given by the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, December 2003.

it was featured on concerts, conferences and a workshop during June 2006 within the event 'Huelga de Compositores' organized by the Aloardí label within the Festival VAE10 in Lima, Perú.
